Read A Personal Thanks from Connie

The concept of ABLE came to Connie while she was lying in her hospital bed awaiting another round of chemo. There wasn't a day that went by where we weren't humbled and surprised by friends, family and sometimes total strangers. It was our faith in God and the acts of hundreds that made us ABLE to keep fighting. This word

ABLE kept ringing in Connie's brain. ABLE means being a part of a community. It means reacting to those little "promptings" that are heard "deep within your soul" to do something for others who are hurting. It means random acts of kindness to lessen someone's pain. It means listening to your heart and acting on those impulses. It means responding when something tells you that you should.

It was absolutely incredible to us to see the "outpouring" of love and affection as we tried to battle this disease. We had old friends, family, neighbors, website visitors and acquaintances rally on our behalf. Support came from Church, from our Bible Study groups, from new friends across the country. Old business clients and complete strangers got involved. Some organized our life, some gave money, some mowed our lawn and some brought meals. They cleaned our house, took care of our kids, handled our finances, and flocked to the hospital to see us.

You did it for us and we want to pass the concept on to the world… YOU ARE ABLE!

HELLO AGAIN!

Welcome to TheCardells.com website. If you are a previous visitor, you will find new information and photos of our lives now. You can review previous postings and see what OUR JOURNEY has been like and how GOD is moving His hand for us once again.

As you know, Connie was diagnosed with leukemiaShe has a rare form of AML and we thought she had it licked.  After chemo, radiation and a stem cell transplant in early 04' we were doing great.  In Feb 06' she went in for her two year checkup and BM test.  They began to see signs of her own cells fighting back.  Her female cells were beginning to show again in the marrow and that was not good news.  Doctors want to see nearly 100% of the donor cells, not Connie's old cells.

We have now had a second transplant (5/5/06) and people are still emailing us from all over the country and...they are praying!

Connie was convinced then that God was not thru with us yet!  Transplants are the cure!  We spent about 30 days in the hospital prior to and after transplant and all went well.  It has now been almost 3 years.  Once again, we thought we were in the clear.

So, the latest blood tests were shocking to say the least.   Connie's blood test on Friday 2/27/09 showed her counts were all low.  Doctors are trying to find out why.  We might be in the battle again. Stay with us and Pray with us.

Thank you for checking the site and for loving us.  I will keep adding new pics and updates every once in a while.  We live for your emails and comments.

Love you all,

Ken  (the Husband/Stallion)
